Every season holds it’s own beauty. When I think of Autumn in Nebraska, I think of maturing fields of corn and soybeans, lots of yellow, white, and purple wildflowers growing in the ditches, and of course, Husker Football! In the past, there were few weddings scheduled in the fall, but over the past decade, they have become much more popular- football game or no!
Autumn weddings are perfect for brides who like the moderate temperatures that are generally associated with Spring weddings, but with an entirely different color palette, and oftentimes much more flexibility with venue and other vendors.
Whether you want to go all-out with an Autumn theme, or you want a more subtle nod to the season, start by choosing the right colors for your bridesmaids, flowers and decor. If you’re not sure where to start check out our Autumn inspiration board on Pinterest!
If you love a ‘rustic’ or ‘country’ theme, Autumn is the perfect season to get married with very little that you need to do to accomplish that vibe! Hay bales are plentiful (for decorating and for photo ops) and the colors on the trees provide a natural, beautiful backdrop with burnished leaves in all different shades.
Couples getting married in the fall also have the fun option of creating
their wedding around Halloween or Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Both holidays fall at the end of October, and neither has to be a dark, creepy theme! To really drive your theme home, you can opt for a black wedding dress and veil. (Yes, it really IS a ‘thing’ – and if you can’t find one you love -because options are limited- then opt for a black prom gown. No one will know the difference once you’re dressed in all of your bridal finery.)
Autumn wedding with no “theme” – no problem!
You get to have fun with deep fall colors, pumpkins in shades of green, orange, blue and white, and deep golden afternoon sunsets.
Incorporate all of your favorite things about Autumn into your wedding:
* If you love candy corn and caramel popcorn, be sure to include a candy/popcorn snack table.
* Along with coffee, offer hot apple cider.
* If you love football, it’s okay to give a nod to your favorite team.
* Get creative with favors- homemade preserves, dried apples, or beeswax candles.
* Instead of a big traditional wedding cake think pumpkin pies, bars…apple tarts – whatever makes your tummy think of Autumn!
